Re-Think

My wife and I took our youngest daughter and two of her friends to the Southern California Re-Think conference this weekend. Re-Think is hosted by Stand To Reason, a Christian ministry that equips Christians to engage the culture with confidence, clear thinking, and grace on many of the difficult issues that surround us today. The Re-Think conference targets Jr. High, High school, and college age youth so they are prepared when they hear how Christians are intolerant toward LGBT groups, or unloving because they want to force women to have unwanted children. Also foolish to believe in the...

Engaging the Culture

Below is a response I received from someone, (I will call Joe) when I asked if they were pro-life. This was a private message because he was not comfortable discussing abortion, (no doubt a hot topic for some) on his Facebook page. But he gave me permission to use it on my blog.  So in reference towards Pro Life or Pro Choice, I really do not speak to either issue because I feel as if I have no power whether the law on this will change… I do feel abortion is morally wrong, but I would never condemn anyone on their life choices…nor do I believe I should be the judge of...

Not long ago, Bill Nye-the Science Guy posted a video about abortion, or women’s rights concerning the choice of abortion. No doubt this is a difficult issue, and I have recently tackled the problem of abortion from the most difficult perspective of rape and incest. So responding to a pro-choice video with relatively short replies hardly does the issue justice. Nevertheless, I decided it would be worth my time to respond within the context of the video, as opposed to someone watching the video and then hoping they would read my two or three page response in a blog post.    ...

What about rape and incest?

This is the only comment like this I will ever make: I am not going to tell a woman who is pregnant by rape that she has to have the child. Great if she wants to, but I refuse to force her. Or a girl pregnant by incest. Or a woman who may die with another pregnancy. Or someone who doesn’t want a child. And no, I will not reply to or even read comments about my comment. Yes, it’s a rotten way to do it. I wish there were no abortions, but women – not me, not you, not our churches – have to make this decision. This was a recent post in a Facebook thread I had been...

24 hours to decide

24 hours to decide

The Washington Post reported that officials are considering a 24-hour waiting period for those considering a tattoo or some kind of body piercing. According to the Washington Post, “District of Columbia officials have proposed mandating a 24-hour waiting period before getting a tattoo or a body piercing. The city’s Department of Health proposed 65 pages of regulations for tattoo parlors on Friday. One [regulation] states that a tattoo artist cannot apply a tattoo until at least 24 hours after a customer requests it. The language for body piercings is similar.” 1 I was wondering what other...
