What does it mean to love as God does?

I was asked this question not long ago and felt it was a good question to be able to answer because in my life I want to be able to recognize God in me, loving others. In recent months I have begun to realize that loving as Jesus calls us to love is not only painful but can be sacrificial. This is especially true when you love others and they do not love you back. Jesus experienced this when He drew near to Jerusalem. In Luke 19:41 we see He wept for the city and the people within knowing fully they were going to accuse, reject, and crucify Him. He was foretelling the destruction of...

Should True Seekers Start with Christianity?

Why should seekers of the true religion start with Christianity? Let’s face it, even the most basic and fundamental beliefs of the world’s major religions have insurmountable differences that make them incompatible insofar as the claim some of you may have heard, ‘All religions are basically the same’. Christianity believes in one God, (Monotheistic), Hinduism teaches there are millions of gods, (Polytheistic), Buddhism does not believe in a god, (Atheistic). Even among the major monotheistic religions, (Christianity, Judaism, Islam). there are irreconcilable differences....

Did Jesus use Scripture?

My wife and I have had some discussions on Jesus’ use of scripture in the past few weeks. So we started our own Bible study and decided to explore His use of scripture, and if He ever referenced the Old Testament. What we found came as quite a surprise, a pleasant one. Not only did Jesus use scripture, he referenced it in a number of different ways. Let me share a few with you. It is written, have you not read, and you have heard it said: In Matthew 4:4 and in Luke 4:4, Jesus was referencing Deuteronomy 8:3: But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread...

How not to create a religion

One of my favorite real world examples of the Holy Trinity, (The Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit), was the water analogy. Not long ago, that worked well for me. Water for example, can exist in three forms or states. H2O can be in liquid form, solid form, and gas or vapor. Not only can it come in those three forms, but it does change its composition from one state to the other. All three states, liquid, solid, and vapor, are still made up of one part hydrogen and two parts oxygen, (H2O). The problem with this example, and really, any real world example that tries to put the Holy Trinity in...

Telling the Truth

Some non-believers might say we don’t know if the New Testament writers were telling the truth. People claim all the time to have seen Elvis and we know it is false. Seeing Elvis became a sort of pop culture joke, but some seemed to seriously believe it to be true. The infatuation some feel for Hollywood stars is prevalent in our culture. Some people become obsessed with a particular movie star, writing them letters, e-mails, texting them, reading their Facebook or Twitter accounts several times a day, all the while their commitments to school, work, family, or friends suffer. I think...
